Fruit Farm Creek Mangrove Restoration - A Coastal Resources Group Project - Marco Island FL

a Coastal Resources Group, Inc project

February 10, 2012

Dear Friends of Fruit Farm Creek:

I am happy to announce two significant events in the restoration planning for FFC:

The first is the receipt from the South Florida Water Management District of our permit for the entire restoration project. See link below of you would like to review a copy. Our U.S. Army Corps of Engineers permit has also been issued for signatures, and I will forward the final signed version when available next week. This makes our total project shovel ready if and when monies are available. At the present time the necessary funds to complete the entire project are not in hand. Your help in securing these funds is sincerely requested.

Second, the Conservancy of Southwest Florida (Kathy Worley) has made a commitment of $150,000 in in-kind services to assist Dorothea Zysko of our team in the establishment and monitoring of the necessary plots and stations to comply with our permit requirements. We are hoping to use these funds as a match for external grants, but some programs do not allow this, so we continue to search for the best match-up of our partners' contributions and grant funds. We have also raised $7,510 from local citizens in cash donations, which along with $75,000 from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service's Coastal Program will allow us to proceed with the construction of Phase 1A of our project. Ground breaking for that portion of the project takes place on February 22.

Our total estimated cost for the remaining portions of the project (Phases 1B and 2) is $750,000 plus the costs of monitoring ($225,000) now covered in part by the Conservancy's donation of staff time and materials. We therefore still need to raise about $250,000 as a match to complete the entire project if grant funds can be found. We are currently developing a revised budget and restoration plan and would welcome any suggestions from our partners about possible sources of funds. Please feel free to circulate this announcement to anyone who may be interested. We also have a website for the project at

Thank you for your assistance and support to date.
